For some reason, I cover some crazy high school games. On Tuesday, I witnessed a first.
The head coaches from Sharyland and La Joya Palmview confronted each other during the fourth quarter. They were face to face and it was clear that they were not exchanging pleasantries.
I’m expecting emails and a phone call or two about my reason to include the heated exchange in my story. It happened in such a public setting, I couldn’t ignore it.
It was clear by Lobos coach Andy Saenz‘s remarks in the story, he was not happy. He didn’t hold back when I asked why tempers flared, which surprised me. Rattlers coach David Keith said he would rather stay positive than rehash the incident, which was probably the right decision.
Saenz said that Sharyland accused his players of trying to punch his players and it went downhill from there.
Whatever triggered the exchange, it happened during competition and the emotions got the best of both coaches. It happens in the heat of competition. This just so happened to be in a high school setting, which made it unfortunate.
I covered a Texas-Pan American college game last Saturday. The opposing coach was upset about a call and he threw the basketball to the ground. He got a technical.
Tuesday night’s game was interesting to say the least.
